If you read my About Me page, you will know that all of this blog stuff is new for me, but I do have to depend on my Internet connection for accessing my website and for online teaching. I was having a problem with my Internet connection being constantly dropped. It became very annoying. When I called my local provider, the recommendations, such as getting another modem and then router, did not help. I kept getting the message, “Network change was detected.”
When I ran my Mac diagnostics program, it said that I was on a very crowded network. Well, there was a set of instructions for changing networks, but it didn’t go too well for me (I am not very tech savvy!). And when I called my local (not really local) provider about the crowded network, I got a tech support person in Jamaica who, unfortunately, wasn’t even familiar with the few tech terms I knew. Thoroughly frustrated, I just put up with the situation until . . .
I happened to be on Amazon ordering a hand-held pet hair vacuum when the following item popped up. I wasn’t sure what it was or if I needed it, but then I read a customer review in which the person described this same problem that I had with my Internet connection, and she said that this little gadget (WiFi dongle network card???) cured her problem. My eyes lit up. It was only $13.99, and I combined it with my vacuum order for free shipping.
Serendipity! This WiFi adapter works! I no longer have my Internet connection dropping out, no more “Network Change Detected”!
Now, I understand that if you are IT or computer savvy, you are probably laughing and thinking that my problem was such an easy fix, and you are more than welcome to provide that fix in the comment box below, but for many of us seniors, a USB device such as this may be our preferred solution. It certainly was mine – and at what I consider a very reasonable cost considering my level of frustration!
